Archetype : Eatery with Garden

Local restaurants that can grow some of their own organic food and pair with local farmers provide nutritious food and public gathering places where alot of healthy socialization can happen. This is often a meeting place or even cultural venue for music and talks. In many ways restaurants, cafes and pubs can be the social hubs of a community since they provide warm places for people to gather on rainy days or evenings.

GUMBOOT GARDEN CAFE

The Gumboot Garden Cafe has been part of our community for 18 years, and has expanded to include the Gumboot Restaurant next door in 2005 to help serve the needs of our growing community.  The ethos of the business has always been to produce good food from scratch which starts everyday with the baking of our bread. We try to provide an array of food that covers many different theories of nutrition to cover the needs of our customers.

We were inspired 5 years ago to start growing in the space behind the restaurant. We thought it would be great to have fresh greens for the restaurant and cafe during the summer and hoped that it would be an inspiration in the community to get people growing. Farmer Dave (Dave Ryan) got things going for us for the first 4 years and is now doing other larger projects on the Sunshine Coast.  In the garden everything takes patience, persistence and vision we are hoping to continue to expand and upgrade and improve all our systems as we go.

As well as being a restaurant and a cafe we have provided the community with a venue for art, music, as well as a meeting place for groups and clubs.  It is truly a community meeting place on every level, a place where every one is welcome  that stresses "common" and "unity".
